2006 was an ordinary year for my family. A typical year actually, with family members scrambling to earn a living, our little Kelly slowly growing wiser and beautiful everyday, and me slowly getting away from the hustle and bustle of my consultancy work in order to devote more time to taking care of my little Kelly. A new addition to my little family at Peace Valley came in the person of my nephew Orde Graig, who came to live with us in June.
Dayton had started his work with Robinsons, and several months later, transferred to Crosscourt at Fortune Square in Mandaue City. Royce in the meantime was in-between his styling, and fashion show coordination work at Chains, BTC, and some private tenants of Cebulink. When Crosscourt started its operations, he opened Iago's, a food outlet serving a variety of topped rice meals. Orde Graig by this time landed a job in one of the local call centers - Sykes. Daisery too, wanted a piece of the action. She, together with 3 other friends, opened a small boutique at Crosscourt.
I was really a hundred percent contented with my role as full time grandma, baby sitter and surrogate mom to my little one. I seldom went out of the house and when I did, it was only to go to church, buy groceries, or take little Kelly out for short walks. She was learning fast, and now enjoyed playing with children of her own age.
Kelly celebrated her 1st birthday in June at the rooftop of the condo where we lived. My friend Jill Viado of Cafe Laguna graciously catered the event, and most of Kelly's godparents and other relatives were present in that memorable day.
As with any family, there will always be misunderstandings and troubles. We too, had our own share of this, which happened towards the last quarter of the year. Daisery and Dayton had some grave misunderstandings, leading to Daisery's leaving the house for over a month. It was an ugly incident, and Dayton was very much affected. When Daisery left, the full burden of motherhood fell on me. I now had to take care of Kelly 24/7, of course with the help of our househelp Joy.
This event led me to ultimately reach the decision of selling my shares at Cebulink, in order to devote full attention to the rearing up of my grandchild. It was a difficult decision to make, but in the end, the love of my grandchild prevailed over the love of my business.
By year's end, I was slowly entertaining the idea of relocating to Dumaguete, due to my aging parents. Papa and Mama were nearing their 80s, and needed someone to constantly be with them. When I broached this subject to my family, they decided to abide by my decision and we reached an agreement of relocating by February 2007.
Our Christmas was celebrated in Dumaguete. It was a reunion of sorts, but we were not complete. Orde Graig could not be with us, due to his job. At any rate, everyone enjoyed the event, Kelly most of all.
