2007 - A YEAR OF UPHEAVAL

The first month of 2007 was spent on packing furniture, household items and getting everything ready for the relocation to Dumaguete. By first week of February, we were comfortably settled in my hometown. The next step now was for the children to find work, i.e. Dayton and Royce. Orde was left behind in Cebu and had to transfer to a boarding house.

By March, Dayton and Royce started their jobs as CSRs of Teletech. I, on the other hand, was still at my old job of taking care of Kelly. Daisery was there too, to help me out. Kelly by this time was the favourite of all the family members. She easily adjusted to the peace and quiet of Dumaguete. During weekends, her Mapi (Portia) and Daddy Mon (Ramon) would bring her to the beach for swimming and frolicking in the sand.

The month of April was a memorable one for the family because of two events: the arrival of Missy and the debut of my niece Debra Faye. We acquired our first Golden Retriever in April. Missy, as we fondly call her, was a cute 3 month old Golden when Daphne brought her to the house. Now, the family's Rottweiler (Butchai) would have a playmate. Missy was Kelly's pup, and she would call her "Mittie", when they play. Debra's 18th birthday, was the other memorable event, with everyone in the family getting involved in the preparations in one way or the other. The debut was held at Judith's beach resort on April 29th.

It was also during this month that I got a call from Yvonne Gomos of Cebu Boardwalk. She offered me the position of Lease and Marketing Consultant for their NRA project. Apparently, Butch had resigned and she badly needed my help. I told her to give me at least a month to decide, since accepting the offer would mean my relocation again to Cebu, and starting from scratch. It would also mean that I would be renting, and worse, I would leave my family. It was quite a tough decision to make, practically because I had grown accustomed to my semi retirement state. But in the end, I took the job, upon approval of my family.

We decided that Daisery and Kelly would come and live with me in Cebu, and during weekends we would take turns in going home (to Dumaguete). Orde and Debra would also come and live with us, in order for them to save on house rentals and food.

By end of June, I was set and ready to work at Cebu Boardwalk.I started my Cebu Boardwalk stint as Lease and Marketing Consultant on July 1st. We initially agreed on a 6 month consultancy period, after which I would become their Lease and Marketing Manager. We still had to look for a regular apartment, so in the meantime, we had to stay for a month at a local hotel.

We transferred to the new apartment (courtesy of Msgr. Rommel) at Mabolo in August. Once everything was ready, Orde and Debra transferred too, and we slowly settled down to the regular routine.

But then, something ugly happened which broke my family, caused Dayton and Royce to resign from their jobs at Teletech Dumaguete, and leave me broken hearted.

In September, Daisery ran away with Kelly to Manila. She was a month pregnant. When Dayton learned of this, he immediately resigned from his work and followed his family to Manila. Because I was now left without a companion, Royce decided to resign too, and came to Cebu to accompany me.

I was broken hearted for a month because of what had happened. I missed Kelly, and the family. Nonetheless, I was able to overcome everything, with the help of my family and friends. Royce found a job at Eperformax, and Dayton was hired at Etelecare Manila.

My life had to go on, with or without Kelly, Dino or Daisery, so slowly, I started to adjust and condition myself back to my old self - as a separated lady, not as a grandma this time. The rest of the year was full of problems, some manageable, some very heart breaking. Problems with Royce were always at the top of the list. But I persevered, and never gave up. I could not turn away from my son.

Yes, 2007 was a tumultuous year for me. I had so many regrets in my decisions, one of which was this: had I not taken the offer of Yvonne, my family would still have been intact and happily settled in Dumaguete. But then again, maybe it was God's will, and I cannot question that.
